A healthcare provider employee was arrested on multiple drug charges after avoiding a checkpoint near a prison facility.
The Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) K9 and Narcotics officers were conducting a vehicle checkpoint at the Limestone Correctional Facility on Friday.
At 5:25 a.m., a red SUV was seen turning around approximately 150 yards from the checkpoint, according to authorities.
ADOC officials tried to pull the vehicle over along a nearby access road, but the driver refused to stop.
After a short chase, the driver eventually stopped the vehicle.
While searching the vehicle, authorities found approximately 195.33 grams of methamphetamines,159.74 grams of marijuana, and 190 grams of chemically altered paper.
ADOC officials identified the driver as Monica Bishop. Bishop was arrested, transported to the
Limestone County Jail, and charged with Trafficking Methamphetamine, Promoting Prison Contraband 1st, Possession of Marijuana 1st, and Unlawful Distribution of a Controlled Substance.
ADOC told News 19 that Bishop is an employee of YesCare, the contract healthcare provider for ADOC, and is subject to their personnel management. However, she is banned from any future admittance to ADOC property.
Additional charged could be pending.
The incident remains under investigation by authorities.
