{"id":49,"date":"2025-07-30T19:47:56","date_gmt":"2025-07-30T17:47:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/opellahealthcare.us\/?p=49"},"modified":"2025-07-28T19:48:30","modified_gmt":"2025-07-28T17:48:30","slug":"judge-orders-medicaid-funding-temporarily-restored-to-all-planned-parenthood-affiliates-the-hill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/opellahealthcare.us\/index.php\/2025\/07\/30\/judge-orders-medicaid-funding-temporarily-restored-to-all-planned-parenthood-affiliates-the-hill\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge orders Medicaid funding temporarily restored to all Planned Parenthood affiliates &#8211; the hill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A federal judge in Boston on Monday blocked the Trump administration from cutting funding to all Planned Parenthood affiliates as part of the GOP\u2019s new tax cut and health law.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ruling by U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani expands on a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/regulation\/court-battles\/5412759-judge-blocks-trump-administration-from-cutting-planned-parenthood-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">decision last week<\/a>, when she issued a preliminary injunction restoring Medicaid funding for only 10 Planned Parenthood affiliates.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cPatients are likely to suffer adverse health consequences where care is disrupted or unavailable,\u201d Talwani wrote in her Monday order. \u201cIn particular, restricting Members\u2019 ability to provide healthcare services threatens an increase in unintended pregnancies and attendant complications because of reduced access to effective contraceptives, and an increase in undiagnosed and untreated STIs.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Planned Parenthood Federation of America, which advocates for abortion rights and does not provide medical care, sued on behalf of all of its 47 regional affiliates, along with its Utah and Massachusetts chapters.&nbsp; &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The lawsuit contests a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/5388133-planned-parenthood-sues-medicaid-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">provision in the new law<\/a>&nbsp;that imposes a one-year ban on state Medicaid payments to health care nonprofits that also offer abortions and received more than $800,000 in federal funding in 2023. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Talwani\u2019s ruling last week was narrow. The injunction applied only to affiliates in states where abortion is illegal, and to ones that did not exceed the $800,000 revenue threshold.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA preliminary injunction maintains Planned Parenthood Members\u2019 ability to seek Medicaid reimbursements \u2014 and maintain their status quo level of service to patients,\u201d Talwani wrote Monday. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe strongly disagree with the court\u2019s decision. States should not be forced to fund organizations that have chosen political advocacy over patient care. This ruling undermines state flexibility and disregards longstanding concerns about accountability,\u201d Health and Human Services spokesperson Andrew Nixon said in a statement to The Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taxpayer money is already prohibited from covering most abortions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, the new law cuts reimbursement for other health services provided by Planned Parenthood and other health centers, such as cancer screenings and treatment for sexually transmitted infections.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cAs this case continues, patients across the country can still go to their trusted Planned Parenthood provider for care using Medicaid.
